Sirius Black's death in the Death Chamber ("The Tattered Veil")

Introduction

The Death Chamber is a large, dimly-lit, rectangular room with a sunken stone pit some twenty feet deep in the centre, much like an amphitheatre. There is a raised stone dais in the centre of the pit, on which an ancient stone archway stands. A tattered black veil hangs on the archway. The veil flutters slightly, although the air around it is still.

From the Story

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Discovered in chapter 35, Beyond the Veil

The entrance to the Death Chamber is the second door tried by Harry and members of the DA when they are in the Department of Mysteries.

Much of the battle between the Death Eaters, DA and Order members takes place in the Death Chamber. When Sirius Black is hit with a spell by Bellatrix Lestrange in the chamber, he falls backwards through the veiled archway, but does not reappear on the other side.
