|“||Immobilises living things||”|
The Freezing Charm causes the target to freeze, immobilising them.
A small mistake is made on the Pottermore website, concerning the actual effect of the spell. It's written under the 'Effects' tab that this spell "Immobilises living things". It's partially wrong, because this spell can be used not only on living things, but on objects as well. In chapter 4 of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Horace Slughorn tells Professor Dumbledore that he uses this spell to freeze Muggle burglar alarms: "...It’s quite easy once you know how, one simple Freezing Charm on these absurd burglar alarms they use instead of Sneakoscopes and make sure the neighbors don’t spot you bringing in the piano".
This charm can be used for dueling on Pottermore as of November 2014.
