Like the rest of her class she becomes much more interested in her History of Magic lesson when Professor Binns tells the Gryffindors about the legend of the Chamber of Secrets.
Parvati Patil is a Gryffindor student, who attends Divination with the other Gryffindors. She listens attentively to Professor Trelawney's predictions, and shoots a startled look at Ron when she is warned to beware a red-haired man.
Parvati attends the Defence Against the Dark Arts lesson with the rest of the third-year Gryffindors. When Professor Lupin calls her forward to face the Boggart, it takes the shape of a blood-stained, bandaged mummy. As she cries 'Riddikulus', a bandage unravels at the mummy's feet; it trips, falls forward, and its head rolls off.
Parvati meets Harry in the Gryffindor common room before the Yule Ball. She is wearing robes of shocking pink, with her long dark plait braided with gold, and gold bracelets glimmer on her wrists. She gazes at Hermione in unflattering disbelief as she and Harry wait outside the Great Hall with the other champions, astounded by her pretty appearance. Parvati has to remind Harry to join the opening dance of the evening and ends up steering Harry around the dance floor. She is disappointed when Harry doesn't want to stay on the dance floor for longer, and they join Ron and Padma at their table. Within minutes, she is asked to dance by a boy from Beauxbatons, and goes off with him. She doesn't return to Harry's table when the song ends.
Parvati enjoys the Care of Magical Creatures lesson with Professor Grubbly-Plank, and hopes that the teachers stays. She is unconcerned about Hagrid's job as a teacher and maintains that he could still be the Hogwarts gamekeeper. Parvati has been very cool towards Harry since the Yule Ball, but has told anyone who listens that she has arranged to meet the boy from Beauxbatons in Hogsmeade on their next trip.
