This article is about the chapter: for the moment, see The Sorting Hat (moment); for the item, see Sorting Hat.

The Sorting Hat is the seventh chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Opening Description

The door swung open at once. A tall, black-haired witch in emerald-green robes stood there. She had a very stern face and Harry’s first thought was that this was not someone to cross.

Closing Description

Professor McGonagall rolled up her scroll and took the Sorting Hat away.

Events

Originally, during this chapter the player is sorted into his or her House and granted access to the Great Hall and their Common Room via the Navigation Bar. The crest on the player's Navigation Bar and the Gateway background also changes to reflect the House they were sorted into.

The 2013 Pottermore redesign moved the Sorting to the player's home screen immediately after confirming an account. As such, the introduction and video message were removed from Moment 2 of this chapter and replaced with art depicting Harry's sorting, and Moment 3 (which contained the Sorting Quiz) was removed entirely.

Moments

This chapter has 2 moments. It previously had 3 moments when the chapter contained the Sorting Quiz.
